CopiaFacts supports native Excel files (.XLS and .XLSX) in two contexts:

as broadcast lists, in both FFBC and Job Administration

as documents to be converted to fax format for transmission by fax, or to PDF for transmission by e-mail

For document conversion, XLSM files are also supported provided that the macros used do not require access to external files.

Broadcast Lists

For Excel broadcast lists, it is not normally necessary to have Excel installed: CopiaFacts has an internal handler for XLS and XLSX broadcast lists.  However if you wish you can select the use of Excel for this purpose by setting the USE_EXCEL variable (job variable for job administration; template variable for FFBC) to a non-empty value.

When you use Excel, you require Excel 2007 or later for handling .XLS and .XLSX files.  Files produced by very early releases of Excel may also require Excel to load them, if they are not supported by the built-in Excel file handler.

When using USE_EXCEL, Excel must be installed on machines on which jobs are launched, and also on all engine nodes which may process the worker-box FS file which launches a DELAY_LAUNCH job instance.

The internal Excel file handler is implemented in CF8EXCEL.DLL.  This DLL must be available on machines which will launch broadcasts from Excel files if you do not have Excel installed.  It is also required if you wish to select specific Worksheets from a file.

WorkSheet and Row Selection for Broadcast Lists

If no override options are supplied, only the first non-hidden worksheet is used for a broadcast list.  However with the internal Excel file handler you can supply overrides in an XLS_OPTIONS variable (job variable for job administration; template variable for FFBC).  The variable may contain one of the following keywords (space separated in the special case where more than one is needed):

AllSheetsSelects rows from all sheets
AllVisibleSheetsSelects rows from all non-hidden sheets
AllSelectedSheetsSelects rows from all sheets for which the tab is 'selected'.  Of course hidden sheets cannot be selected.
UseSheetNThis keyword can be included multiple times, with N as a number between 1 and the total number of worksheets, to select specific sheets by number.  If the number N has already been picked it is ignored. The sheets are included in the sequence of UseSheetN specifiers.
ExcludeHiddenRowsThis keyword causes hidden rows on the selected sheets to be excluded.  It is currently ignored when Excel is used to handle the list.

When USE_EXCEL is specified, only a subset of these features is currently available: all the keywords may be used but only the first sheet of those selected will be used. Also, files with more than 63 worksheets cannot be processed when any of these options are specified, and the launch will fail.

Document Conversion of Excel Files

To convert Excel files to TIF or PDF, you require Excel 2007 or later for handling .XLS and .XLSX files.

The Document Converter also has an option to use Star Office, Open Office or Libre Office to convert Excel Files.

WorkSheet Selection for Document Conversion

If no override options are supplied, all non-hidden worksheets are used in the conversion.  However you can supply overrides in a CVT_XLS_OPTIONS variable (job variable for job administration; either environment variable or $environment for CVSINGLE run standalone).  The variable may contain one of the following keywords (space separated in the special case where more than one is needed):

AllSheetsSelects rows from all sheets
AllVisibleSheetsSelects rows from all non-hidden sheets (this is the default, so it causes unnecessary analysis if you use it)
AllSelectedSheetsSelects rows from all sheets for which the tab is 'selected'.  These sheets will be 'visible'.
UseSheetNThis keyword can be included multiple times, with N as a number between 1 and the total number of worksheets, to select specific non-hidden sheets by number. The specified sheets are included in the original sequence of the file.  If N refers to a hidden sheet, the keyword is ignored.

Files with more than 63 worksheets cannot be processed with these options, and the conversion will fail.
