Supported Hardware

CopiaFacts supports various Dialogic SCBus boards. The system has been tested with the Proline/2V, D/41H, D/41ESC, VFX/40SC, VFX/40ESC, D/240 and D/300SC-E1 boards, as well as the newer JCT boards.

Hardware Installation

Follow the instructions on the Dialogic reference card or in the Dialogic installation manual to install the board(s). Make a note of the settings of the board ID on the thumbwheel of D/41E-based boards. Currently CopiaFacts does not support the use of the FAX/40 daughterboard in resource mode, and the bus terminator should be removed.

Disabling Boards

If you use multiple ISDN boards on different spans, we suggest using $block_spans and $unblock_spans (when supported) to disable the boards while CopiaFacts is not running.  This allows incoming calls to be passed automatically (when connected to a suitably-configured switch) to another machine in the same hunt group.

Software Installation

Install the Dialogic driver and test program software as described in the Dialogic manual "System Release Software Installation Reference for Windows" which should have been supplied with your boards. In summary, this involves the following steps:

Make sure you have logged in to an account with Administrator privileges.

Use the Control Panel to check that your Windows network configuration includes the Streams Environment. Use "Control Panel / Networking / 'Add Software / Streams Environment" to install from your distribution media if not already installed.

Use the "COPIAFACTS" installation CD to install the Dialogic drivers. If you select Custom installation, you will need only the Drivers and test programs to run CopiaFacts. Custom installation is recommended, and is required for ISDN systems for which the software is not automatically installed using the Typical option.

Continue to Board Configuration at the end of the software installation (or you can run this step separately from the icon in the Dialogic Development Package folder). Select Add Board to Configuration and then select the board you have installed. Repeat this step if you have multiple boards. For the VFX/40ESC board, select Use Frontend. Normally the default settings will be appropriate for the remaining prompts, but if you have a second printer installed the default IRQ of 5 may have to be changed.

Use the Dialogic Service Startup program in the Dialogic group in Program Manager to manually start the Dialogic System Service. If this is successful, check the 'automatic' checkbox so that the service starts automatically in future. Otherwise, use the Windows Event Log Viewer to determine the cause of the error and contact your CopiaFacts supplier for advice if the problem is not immediately fixable.

After a successful Dialogic installation in Windows, CopiaFacts is able automatically to identify and locate all the boards in the system.

In the event of an abnormal termination of COPIAFACTS (following a problem affecting either CopiaFacts or another system program) it may not be possible to re-start COPIAFACTS without re-starting the Dialogic drivers. If you need to reboot, the drivers will be reloaded automatically. But normally Windows will should not need to be rebooted, and in this case you can use the Dialogic Service Startup program in the Dialogic group in Program Manager to 'stop now' and then restart the Dialogic service manually. After you have done this, reselect automatic mode so that the service restarts automatically in future.

Fax Boards

Please see the documentation for Dialogic Fax Boards.

Voice Call Progress Analysis

Dialogic provides a mechanism to determine 'human answer' or 'answering machine answer' by analyzing the duration of the called party's utterance and any associated tones and silences.  This response is made available in the CopiaFacts CATYPE system variable after a call has been connected.

Automatic Detection of Fax Tone

Sometimes a fax-on-demand application will encounter callers who mistakenly attempt to transmit a fax to a line which is intended to handle requests.

CopiaFacts can use the Dialogic call progress and tone detection features to detect an incoming fax automatically on a receive or accept line which is also configured for voice operations. Your SDID greeting, standard voice prompt 73 and standard voice prompt 43, or your normal greetings, standard voice prompt 1 or standard voice prompt 29, must be long enough to detect the CNG tone, since the tone is detected while playing these messages. Usually 5 to 10 seconds is sufficient. This facility is available with any fax board which is supported with the Dialogic voice board, not just with the Dialogic fax board.

After detection of CNG tone, further system prompts (for example 'press the start button') are suppressed since hearing the CNG tone implies that nobody is there to listen to them.
